The Trustees and Staff of the Memorial were honoured by a visit in July 2016 by HRH The Princess Royal who attended the Memorial's Annual Service.

Summer 2014 saw the publication of Professor Duncan Macmillan's book "Scotland's Shrine - The Scottish National War Memorial".

Historically, Scotland has always had a very strong relationship with the sea. However the sacrifices made by Scotland’s merchant seamen during both World Wars have not always been as recognised as they could have been.

At 0730hrs on 1 July 1916 the whistles blew and the pipes played ordering men to climb out of their trenches and cross "no-mans" land towards the German positions. So began the Battle of the Somme.

The Chief Executive and Trustees of the Memorial were delighted to host The Lord High Commissioner Lord Patrick Hodge and Lady Hodge for a visit on 25th May during General Assembly Week.

Summer 2014 was an especially busy time for the Trustees and staff of the Memorial, as the Centenary of the outbreak of World War One approached.
