Their Name Liveth - an illustrated guide to the Memorial

An illustrated guide to the Memorial
Our price: £7.99

In 1931, the decorated First World War veteran Major John Beith, otherwise known by his pseudonym Ian Hay, wrote this wonderful book about the Scottish National War Memorial.

While original editions can still be found on the second-hand market, the Trustees of the memorial reprinted it in 1985, albeit with some sections removed. Thirty six years on, we are republishing a full version of the book with the removed sections re-instated, and new material added to bring the story of the Memorial up to date. The most significant addition is the inclusion of 47 stunning high definition photographs of the memorial taken by Antonia Reeve, and used in the book Scotland's Shrine, by Professor Duncan Macmillan published by Lund Humphries in 2014.

The book provides perceptive background as to why, in the aftermath of the First World War, Scotland decided to build its own Memorial to its dead, beautiful descriptions of the memorials and art work within it, and insights into the history of the proud fighting units that Scotland sent forth into battle.
