The Scottish National War Memorial is located in the heart of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. It is to be found within the walls of Edinburgh Castle. |
The Memorial is a fifteen minute walk away from Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station and the Edinburgh City Centre Bus Station and it is five miles from Edinburgh Airport. Car parking is available in the Castle area, but not on the Castle Esplanade.
The Scottish National War Memorial is open to the public every day of the week 9.30am to 5.30pm. The Memorial is closed on Christmas Day, New Year's Day and when National events are being held at Edinburgh Castle, such as a Royal visit.
Admission to Edinburgh Castle to visit the Memorial only is free of charge on application to the Castle Ticket Office. No charge is made for admission to the Memorial itself and the stewards do not accept gratuities.
There is a courtesy bus for the infirm, the disabled and those who find the steep climb to the top too much for them. The Memorial itself has facilities for disabled access.
Visitors are respectfully asked to remember that this is a shrine to those who gave their lives in the service of their country.The Scottish National War Memorial is a charitable trust and donations towards the upkeep of the Memorial are always welcome. Donation boxes are to be found in the Memorial porch.
