| Bob | Carswell | CA | I have the deepest respect for all of the people in the world who fought with the Allies. My late parents were both officers in the RAF and WAAF respectively and served at RAF Wigtown for a period early in the station's existance....my mother was the first WAAF to arrive there in 1941 as the new cipher officer, having survived the bombing during the Battle of Britain that destroyed RAF Biggin Hill were she was stationed for a year in 1940, working on the plotting tables. My father was a staff pilot there in training command, then a navigations instructor and later flew a Lancaster in combat. From the Canadian Army Signals as a motorcycle dispatch rider, Lorry driver to a pilot in the RAF and Flight Lieutenant, he then left the service to join the RCAF as a pilot officer and immediately promoted to Flight Lieutenant. My brother and I are two of Canada's 22,000 war babies born to servicemen overseas during WWII and even now have reached the retirement age. How fast life passes when you are having fun. |

I had no idea this was here and I just found it by chance. Unfortunately I have not seen the original yet but look forward to doing. Thank you so much for this wonderful service! |
